The Merdeka Award was established in 2007 by PETRONAS, ExxonMobil & Shell to recognise and reward excellent individuals and organisations whose works and achievements have not only contributed to the nation’s growth but have also inspired greatness in the people of Malaysia. It is a prestigious award that honours their outstanding effort and role in living the ‘Merdeka’ spirit.
The award is equivalent to the Nobel Peace Prize, but there’s a lack of exposure, especially among the Post-Merdeka Generations.
We focused on more digital presence by creating exciting info-graphic visuals, live videos of the award ceremony, cross promotions with other well-established organizations all over Malaysia to create brand exposure. Rather than sticking to normal interview sessions, we did a “Coffee Chat” concept where the media had a chance to meet the key people behind the Merdeka Award and exclusive meetings with the deserving recipients.
We also maintained a good relationship with most of the education desk from dailies (all languages) to keep them updated on the latest inventions by the Merdeka Award Grant recipients.
