The NAWEM Women Entrepreneur Awards 2006
From education to public relations and to entrepreneur… these are the milestones that mark Patricia’s career.
Trading on her training as an economist and her role as an educationist, Patricia ventured out in 1992 to establish a public relations agency, Pat-Lin Communications Sdn Bhd, while still in her 20’s.
Perseverance, determination and a passion to success saw her through the challenging initiation into the business world and beyond. (Perhaps, her economics background did come in handy after all!)
Today, 14 years later, the company has firmly established its niche, meeting the communications needs of health, lifestyle and corporate clients, from multinationals to small & medium sized companies and entrepreneurs. She has also since established an associate company called Wordsworth Sdn Bhd, a copywriting company to complement and augment the services offered to clients.
Leading by example, Patricia continues to instil in her team the importance of PRIDE – Personal Responsibility in Delivering Excellence – and provides guidance to empower each team member to deliver on that brand promise. She remains focused on building good chemistry and trust which binds successful client-consultant relationships.
Helming the organization takes much of her time but Patricia still practises a very hands-on approach. While she strives hard to empower her team and supports them with her insights, she is never one to just watch from afar. She thrives on involvement. It is her passion for PR and her drive to ensure projects are impactfully implemented that has endeared her to clients.
The company’s current stable of clients include Abbott Laboratories, Boh Plantations, Denise Wine, Lam Soon, Merck, Sharp & Dome, Pfizer, Tactics Asia, Teledirect Telecommerce, Tetra Pak Malaysia & Singapore, TMI Malaysia, New Zealand Milk, Wyeth Malaysia and others.
Her advice to young entrepreneurs? “Build your competency in your field. The learning curve may be steep but it is rewarding. Be passionate in your work. This drives success. Determine in your heart and mind to be the very best that you can be and set out to achieve that.”
